Battle of Mulhouse
This battle started because it was an opening attack of WW1. The battle was between Germany and the French Army. Part of the battle was a French attempt so they could recover. In August, the French stayed at Mulhouse and then were forced out by German counter attacks. The German general was Bonneau and the French general was Paul Pau. The left Mulhouse on the 26th of August to find a more defensible place.
Battle of Lorraine
This battle was between France and Germany and they fought in August 1914. The battle followed the plan XVII, which proposed a French offensive from Lorraine to Alsace which lead to Germany. Herwig was the leader of the German army, while Castelnau was the leader of the French army.
Battle of Ardennes
This battle was one of the opening battles of WW1. It took place on August 16 1914. France and German invasion forces the lower Ardennes forests. The 20 of August The Germans launched a counter - officesive against the French .
Battle of Charlerio
This battle started on August 21 1914. French and were still at war. Germany was planning their own attack, while France was going to attack across the Sambre River. However, Germany attacked and won the battle.
The First and Second battle of Somme
So the fight went on with France and Germany. The Somme offense was the First World War fought by British and France against the Gernan empire which took place on July 1 1916. This battle was one of largest battles in WW1. During this the second battle of Somme was in 1918. It was fought on the western front.
